How We Build: Making Our Brighton Podcast Studio Feel Like Theirs

The “How we build” podcast. Making Our Brighton Podcast Studio Feel Like Theirs

Sometimes you don’t need us to make the content. You just need a great place to make it.

Jennifer Clamp and Tom Nixon hired our Brighton podcast studio for a four-hour recording session for How We Build, bringing their own content, their own conversation and a clear idea of what they wanted to record.

So our job was slightly different.

Rather than producing the programme for them, we provided the studio, cameras, sound and technical setup, then adapted the space so it felt right for their podcast rather than simply putting them into a standard WIDEO.co.uk set.

THEIR CONTENT. THEIR LOOK. OUR STUDIO.

And that’s an important part of what the studio is here for.

A studio doesn’t have to look the same for everybody

A lot of podcast studios are designed around a permanent set. You arrive, sit in the chairs and your podcast looks broadly like everybody else’s podcast recorded there. We’ve deliberately made our Brighton podcast studio more flexible than that.

For Jennifer and Tom’s How We Build session, we customised elements of the room, including the imagery displayed on our large portrait screens and additional set dressing, to create a look that suited their podcast. The cameras, microphones, lighting and technical infrastructure stayed ready to go behind the scenes.

What changed was what appeared in front of them.

Bring the conversation. We’ll prepare the room.

There is a practical advantage to this too. You don’t necessarily want to arrive for an important podcast recording and spend the first hour working out cameras, microphones, lighting, framing, cabling and whether everything is actually recording properly.Jennifer and Tom could concentrate on what they had come to Brighton to do.

We took care of the studio around them.

That included the multi-camera recording setup, professional podcast microphones, lighting and the technical side of capturing the session, with the resulting camera and audio files supplied afterwards for their own post-production. In other words, this wasn’t about handing their project over to us creatively. It was about giving them a properly equipped podcast studio in which to create it themselves.

A Brighton podcast studio that can look like your podcast

The large screen in our central Brighton studio give us a particularly useful way of changing the character of the set without rebuilding it every time somebody walks through the door. It can become a guest over Zoom, window, branded graphics, photography, colour, scenery or something designed specifically for your programme. Add different props, plants and framing and the same physical studio can feel surprisingly different on camera. That’s something we’re keen to develop further.

Because if you’re building your own podcast, video series or interview format, we’d rather help it develop its own visual identity than stamp ours all over it.

Need the room rather than the production company?

That’s absolutely fine.

You can hire the WIDEO.co.uk podcast studio in central Brighton for your own recording, with professional cameras, microphones, lighting and the technical setup ready when you arrive. And if you want the set to look a little more like you, talk to us beforehand. We can work with you on the screens, set dressing and framing so that when the cameras start rolling, it doesn’t simply look like you’ve hired a podcast studio.

It looks like you’ve arrived at yours.
