WIDEO.co.uk · Brighton practical sessions
Which one would you actually give up an hour for?
We’re planning a new series of practical sessions for you if you’re responsible for marketing, communications and content.
Each one tackles a real problem, gives you something useful to take back to work and lasts just 60 minutes.
We’re starting at PLATF9RM in Brighton and, rather than deciding what everybody needs on your behalf, we’d like you to tell us which ones are worth running first.
60 MINUTES
One practical problem.
Useful enough to take something away. Short enough to fit into an actual working day.
£5 A SEAT
Coffee & pastries.
Enough to reserve your place and help cover something decent to eat and drink.
BRIGHTON
PLATF9RM.
Small, useful, in-person sessions with room for questions and conversation.
No sprawling programme. No three-day masterclass.
One problem. One useful hour.
These aren’t designed to turn you into a filmmaker, podcast producer or marketing professor overnight.
They’re about the bits that often make content unnecessarily difficult: too many ideas, too many stakeholders, experts who suddenly stop sounding human, pressure to keep feeding channels, proving whether anything worked and working out where AI genuinely helps.
Each session starts with a real working problem, explores why it happens and gives you practical ideas, tools or ways of thinking that you can use afterwards.
The first question is simply: which ones would be useful to you?
THE IDEAS WE’RE TESTING
Which would you genuinely consider attending?
You don’t have to pick just one. Have a look through and tell us what would actually be useful.
01
The content triage
Too many ideas, campaigns and requests. Not enough time.
When everything feels important, content plans quickly become overloaded and difficult to deliver. We’ll look at a practical way to decide what deserves attention, what can wait and what probably shouldn’t be made at all.
Takeaway: A simple framework you can use whenever the requests start piling up.
02
Stop starting with video
The format gets chosen before anybody decides what needs to happen.
“We need a video” is often where the conversation starts when it should probably come much later. We’ll look at audience, purpose and intended response before deciding which format actually fits the job.
Takeaway: A better way to brief content and challenge expensive assumptions before production begins.
03
How to get experts sounding like people
Brilliant people can become wooden, scripted or impossibly complicated when the camera appears.
We’ll explore preparation, questioning, structure and simple ways to remove performance pressure so that the person you normally enjoy talking to is still there when you press record. If that expert is you, we can help you in the moment, in the room.
Takeaway: Practical techniques for helping experts sound clearer, more confident and more like themselves.
04
One conversation. A month of useful content.
The demand for content never stops. Your experts’ available time does.
We’ll look at how one properly planned conversation can support different channels and different communication jobs without endlessly dragging people back in front of a camera or inventing ideas from scratch.
Takeaway: A practical method for getting more useful content from the expertise and recording time you already have.
05
Five stakeholders. One message.
Everybody has something that absolutely has to go in.
The more people involved in approving content, the easier it becomes for every message to be declared essential. We’ll look at how to bring the discussion back to the audience and handle competing priorities without ending up with content that tries to say everything.
Takeaway: A clearer way to reach agreement before the approval process eats the idea alive.
06
Views aren’t ROI
You need to show what the content actually achieved, not simply how many people scrolled past it.
Views, likes and impressions can look reassuring in a report without telling you whether anything useful happened. We’ll explore what meaningful success might actually look like and what should be agreed before the content is made.
Takeaway: A simple approach to setting useful measures and making content spend easier to defend internally.
07
Do you actually need a podcast?
A brilliant idea can very quickly become a permanent weekly obligation. A concept you think has massive potential never gets going.
We’ll explore what a podcast could genuinely help achieve, who would listen, what you can realistically sustain and how to test an idea before committing yourself to episode 147.
Takeaway: The questions you should answer before saying yes to a podcast.
08
Get out of the internal bubble
Everyone inside the business understands what you’re talking about. Unfortunately, they’re not the audience.
We’ll look at how jargon, assumptions and buried expertise creep into communication, and how to translate complexity without dumbing it down.
Takeaway: Practical techniques for making expert knowledge clearer, more relevant and easier for outsiders to care about.
09
AI without sounding like AI
You want the time-saving benefits without turning everything into suspiciously polished beige.
We’ll look at where AI genuinely helps with ideas, structure, first drafts and repurposing, where human judgement needs to take back control and why speed isn’t much use if the result sounds exactly like everybody else.
Takeaway: A practical way to use AI to reduce workload while keeping the expertise, voice and human thinking intact.
10
How to create engaging content without the burnout
Constantly trying to “come up with something different” for your content is exhausting for you and everybody you drag into the process.
Compelling ideas don’t have to begin with a blank whiteboard and a scheduled brainstorming session. We’ll explore what audiences actually care about, how deeper audience research creates better raw material and how you can train yourself to notice useful ideas in conversations, questions and everyday observations.
We’ll also look at when a creative tangent is worth following and when the conversation has somehow reached buying a company jacuzzi and somebody needs to bring everyone gently back to the objective.
Takeaway: A more sustainable way to find ideas, stay alert to opportunities and be comfortable with not always having the answer immediately.
