Luckily, shooting video rarely requires us to get physically close to people so we can keep the required 2 meters away.

The only exception is placing microphones on people for interviews. For that, we can either

  • Set up a boom microphone. This is where the microphone is on a long boom arm, just above your head and out of the camera’s frame of view. You can then walk into position and the microphone will pick up what you say.
  • Make available a disinfected lapel microphone unit which you can then clip onto your clothing.

Being asked to talk in front of the camera can feel daunting at first, especially if you have not done anything like it before. On this page, we hope to demystify what happens and to answer some of the frequently asked questions.

Do I need to prepare anything for the video?

No. Just be yourself. We will be having an informal conversation in the same way you would have with a customer or colleague.

But I would feel really comfortable if I could bring along some notes.

In our experience this is a bad idea. People get more tense trying to “get it right” and can take much much much longer. As counterintuitive as it sounds, we get the best results where you rock up, sit down and answer our questions without any notes. The interview will come across more natural. We just waffle on and edit out all the mistakes.

So I just rock up and chat?

Yes! Just put your trust in us. We will have a very clear idea of what we are after. With many years of experience in framing a conversation with you to be able to get the answers we need, we will guide you all the way.

But I’m scared I’ll look and sound horrible.

OK, here’s the thing;

When you look at yourself in the mirror, you always see your face the WRONG WAY ROUND. So when you see yourself on video, it’s the right way round. Everyone sees you like that! They’re not phased by it at all. They love that face.

It’s the same for your voice. You only hear yourself through the soft tissue in your head. But even when you hear your voice through the best speakers, it sounds different and less warm. Again, everyone else hears your voice like that, it’s totally normal to them. They love that voice!

How long will it take?

Not long. In any filming schedule we produce, we will always allow roughly double the amount of time for your interview. This is all designed so you can get comfortable in a calm, informal and un-rushed atmosphere.

Just about everyone we interview comments on how quick and easy it was after all! They are also pleasantly surprised with how well they come across when they see the finished video!

How will I know what is happening on the day of the video shoot?

We will produce a full running order for the day. You will know what we are filming, where we will be filming and the times. That way, you have a detailed idea of how the day will run.
